Even reproduction parts sometimes need a little extra attention to achieve the perfect fit.
Recently, WD Booton was tasked with resolving clearance issues on a set of reproduction brake drums that didn’t quite align with their intended wire wheels.
Our engineering team carried out a careful assessment and determined that the cooling fins were preventing a proper fit. Using precision machining techniques, we removed 0.3 inches from the fins at a 45° angle — a subtle adjustment that allowed the drums to seat correctly without compromising strength or cooling performance.
With the modification complete, the brake drums now fit perfectly, ensuring safe and reliable operation. It’s another example of how WD Booton’s hands-on engineering expertise helps keep classic and specialist machinery performing as it should.
